In July 2025, Te Pito Whakatupu hosted a pilot programme at Waikato-Tainui focused on developing visual illustration skills within our iwi. This was a way to explore different ways of making information more accessible, engaging and easier to understand for our tribal members - especially those who are visual thinkers. This is where I was first introduced to learning visual illustration.

Over the two-day workshop, we all learnt basic skills around live illustration from Live Scriber Jacqui Chan. From this point onward, I discovered a real passion for illustration and have continued developing my own visual style and approach ever since.

Now, I've expanded my illustration services and am currently developing new frameworks grounded in Te Ao Maaori that help guide and inform my work. These frameworks shape the way I approach visual storytelling, communication, and the presentation of ideas in ways that are meaningful, engaging and accessible.

Ngaa mihi to the Kairangahau who organised this workshop and helped guide the start of my new journey!
